We also construct a thermal containment barrier when the storage space directly borders an insulated attic area above the living space. For example, if the attic entrance is in the garage and part of the attic extends over the garage while another portion extends over the house, we install the barrier to prevent blown-in insulation from spilling into the storage area and to maintain the performance of your home’s thermal envelope.
This setup is ideal for storage, as garage-adjacent attic spaces typically do not require insulation like the areas above living spaces. Creating storage directly over living areas often leads to compressed insulation, significantly reducing its effectiveness and negatively impacting energy efficiency.
